A Sterling Silver Necklace of Amethyst and Peridot for Balance and Brightness This Amethyst and Peridot necklace brings together two gemstones that people have loved for centuries. The design holds three 8 × 6 mm facetted Amethysts and four 8 × 6 mm facetted Peridots, with a rich Amethyst at the centre. These gemstones hang from an English sterling silver trace chain with a north–south loop, and the necklace closes with an 11 mm sterling silver oval trigger clasp. The full piece weighs 8 g and adjusts up to 18 inches. The Geology of Amethyst and Peridot Amethyst forms inside ancient volcanic rocks. Silica‑rich fluids cool slowly over millions of years, and iron within the crystal gives it its violet colour. Natural radiation deepens the tone as time passes. Many Amethyst deposits are more than 100 million years old, so each stone carries a long geological story. Peridot forms much deeper in the Earth’s mantle. It rises to the surface through volcanic activity, and its bright green colour comes from magnesium and iron. Some Peridot crystals are over 4 billion years old, which makes it one of the oldest gemstones used in jewellery. Because of this, the pairing of Amethyst and Peridot brings together two very different parts of the Earth.
